Page history last edited by Stefanie Hollmichel 1 yr ago
  • Bronson Alcott Emerson had a great admiration for his friend Alcott. He often helped the Alcott family financially and the young Louisa May had a bit of a crush on Emerson.
  • Margaret Fuller Society Margaret Fuller was a dear friend to Emerson. The two carried on an intellectual affair for a number of years. She and Nathaniel Hawthorne were also very close, so close that Hawthorne's wife hated Fuller with a passion.
  • The Writings of Henry David Thoreau and Thoreau Society Emerson and Thoreau were best friends. Thoreau's cabin on Walden Pond was on Emerson's property. They had their disagreements and even broke off their friendship for about a year at one point. When they made up, it was like that year of separation never happened. When Thoreau died of tuberculosis at the age of 45, Emerson was devastated.
